SAG-AFTRA Actors Strike
July 14, 2023 - October 2023
Allison picketed at Warner Bros Studios on Friday July 14 for the first day of the SAG-AFTRA Strike, alongside her fellow union members. SAG-AFTRA began a historic strike as of midnight July 13 in the face of AMPTP’s refusal to make a fair deal for actors and writers.
There are a multitude of issues at play between the studios (AMPTP) and the 160,000+ actors who work under SAG-AFTRA collectively-bargained contracts, namely: economic fairness in residuals paid for streaming content, concerns about unchecked use of AI technology to replicate actors’ likenesses, and the burden on actors of an industry-wide shift to self-taped auditions. It’s easy to forget that most working actors can no longer make a living wage due to disparate streaming residuals, while studios continue to rake in billions in profit. It is not surprising that Allison was among the first of the A-Listers to join the picket lines: she has always given full-throated support to her union and knows it is crucial that high profile actors (who, by the nature of their recognizability, sell the studio’s products) take steps to visibly support the strike. During the strike, actors will NOT be making any promotional appearances, doing press junkets, or posting any social media in support of their studio projects -
On Wednesday July 19, Allison again joined the picket lines at Warner Brothers. While marching with SAG-AFTRA, she spoke to LA’s KNX News 97.1 and said “I would absolutely stone-cold refuse to do an AI-generated script.” She also shared another Instagram post with her feelings about the picket lines.🪧💪
In a July 19 Instagram interview, when asked why she was on strike, Allison said:
“I am on strike because the landscape of this industry has changed so much and that needs to be reflected in how we are paid… it’s just not fair right now. We are striking and demanding what’s right and that’s why I’m here, I’m here with my fellow MOM co-stars Beth Hall and Mimi Kennedy and Eddie Gorodetsky and we’re all standing in solidarity marching and striking for what’s right…we love to do what we do so please let us do it and pay us for it. As my sign says, ‘name your favorite movie without actors’…I can’t think of one.”
