Play By Craig Lucas, about a dinner party among six friends. Allison played "Boo".
Directed by Joe Mantello. With John Benjamin Hickey; in 2017, while promoting Six Degrees of Separation, they both spoke to Playbill and noted this production of Blue Window as their first time - of many - working together.

The House Of Yes (1995)
“The House Of Yes” - Soho Repertory Theater - 46 Walker Street, New York, New York. - January 1995. Directed by Julian Webber. Play by Wendy MacLeod, a Kenyon College classmate of Allison’s. The New York Times described the play as “a work that mixes domestic imagery from vintage American sitcoms with a strong flavor of apocalypse.” Allison played Mrs. Pascal.

“New England” - Manhattan Theater Club. City Center - Stage 1 - 131 West 55th Street, New York, NY. October 17 - December 22, 1995.
Play by Richard Nelson, a comedy of mixed-heritage about trans-Atlantic manners within family brought back together for a funeral. Allison played Gemma Baker.
Directed by Howard Davies
NY Times review November 8, 1995: “In a play in which virtually all emotion must be expressed in nuance, Ms. Janney’s performance [as Gemma Baker] is the most moving.”

Fat Men in Skirts (1994)
“Fat Men in Skirts” – Naked Angels Theater Company. Naked Angels Theater on West 17th Street, New York, NY. March 6-16, 1994.
Play by Nicky Silver about Phyllis and her son Bishop who are stranded on a dessert island for five years after their plane crashes.
Directed by Joe Mantello. With Stanley Tucci and Marissa Tomei; Allison played Phyllis Hogan
In speaking to Variety in 2009 about 9 to 5 (also directed by Joe Mantello), Allison reminisced about this production: "You know I once did a little play for him [Joe Mantello] in New York called “Fat Men In Skirts.” I remember going onstage and I felt nobody in the audience was looking at me or paying any attention to me. So I looked hard at the audience and there were Jackie Onassis, John Kennedy Jr., Al Pacino, Ellen Burstyn, and Mike Nichols sitting downfront. No wonder no one was looking at me! Well, anyway, I had a great letter from Mike Nichols after and he has become a real supporter."
Allison also credits this production of Fat Men in Skirts with connecting her to her role in the film "Big Night" through Stanley Tucci.

Breaking Up (1993)
“Breaking Up” – Primary Stages Theater Co. - 45th Street Theater at 354 West 45th Street New York, NY. September 29, 1993 - October 24, 1993.
Play written by Michael Cristofer, a chronicle of a couple's rocky two-year relationship on the verge of dissolution. Allison again played Alice, one half of the aforementioned couple. This was the New York premiere of this play, having previously been staged by the Teaneck, NJ American Stage Company.

Five Women Wearing the Same Dress (1993)
“Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” – Manhattan Class Company. 120 West 28th Street Theater. February 3, 1993 - March 21, 1993. By Alan Ball, the play is a comedy about five gossipy bridesmaids at a society wedding.
NY Times Review February 18, 1993. Allison played Mindy, one of the five bridesmaids. The review stated that "The [five] actresses are variously appealing and they all manage to retain their panache even when dialogue seems interchangeable...the snappiest [lines go to] Allison Janney."

Inspecting Carol (1992)

Directed by Chris Smith.A man who asks to audition at a small theater is mistaken for an informer for the National Endowment for the Arts. Everyone caters to the bewildered wannabe actor, and he is given a role in the current production, A Christmas Carol. Everything goes wrong and hilarity ensues.
