The Golden Globe Award
January 7, 2018
Allison attended the 75th Golden Globe Awards on January 7, 2018 as a six-time nominee (four times for ‘The West Wing’ and once for ‘MOM’, in addition to the instant nomination for ‘I, Tonya’). Having never collected the ultimate prize, her nomination and win this evening was a wonderful career moment: in addition to being the first win in a long line of 2018 film awards which Allison was about to sweep.
Allison wore a custom Mario Dice gown to the event; due to the ongoing TimesUp movement, the women of Hollywood had agreed to band together and wear black to the ceremony - but unfortunately, the gown Allison had chosen was white. Allison’s stylist Tara Swennen worked to quickly have the gown customized by Mario Dice himself. In a 2020 interview, she stated “One of the greatest custom moves we had was when Mario Dice, during the Golden Globes Times Up movement in 2018, he was willing to black out that dress for us. [The dress was originally white]. It was incredible that he was able to turn that around for us.”
Allison won her first Golden Globe over Mary J. Blige (“Mudbound”), Hong Chau (“Downsizing”), Laurie Metcalf (“Lady Bird”), and Octavia Spencer “(The Shape of Water”). The award was presented by Kate Hudson.
